Last year's refined metal import boom was mirrored in the raw materials markets, with record inflows of copper concentrate and a 5% increase in imports of recyclable copper. But China's imports of Russian copper actually fell by 20% to 324,000 tonnes in 2022. ![]() ![]() China's imports of primary aluminium leapt by 59% last year as metal was redirected from Western markets. Nor has there been any surge in arrivals of unwanted Russian metal such as seen in aluminium. This has created a ripple effect of supply shortages and higher premiums for users in the Shanghai area and Guangdong province, where Maike was a particularly powerful player.īut it has clearly had minimal impact on the overall flow of refined copper into China. One of China's top import channels abruptly halted all its copper purchases in the summer of 2022 after it ran out of cash to pay suppliers. The strength of last year's imports was even more surprising given the financial problems at privately-owned Maike Group. When I drag things from TP3 over a calendar I usually drag it to the top meaning it is an untimed or all day event. It also allows my iPhone calendar to sync and stay in touch with my daily to do list.Īnd, one last tip I learned on YouTube, I have added two calendars in Calendar, one named TODO and one named TODO_Done. This allows my future Typinator script to find the task if it is still not done. When I have an event to be done that day, I drag it into my Calendar app (Bus圜al, although Calendar works the same way). Clicking on an tag shows me all the things out of all the many things I have tried to remember that I need to do now. To help me keep things written down so I don’t forget i use tags. I use in TP3 to help me focus on tasks I need to focus on, things waiting, etc. Keyboard Maestro handles putting the two apps up in the same proportion with a single keystroke. I have a TP3 Task document that I open and size up automatically with scrivener on the same vertically rotated screen. Ratification of international agreements in Member States However, there are some uncertainties on the horizon, notably the future of the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) once the new US President comes into office in 2017. An agreement is currently under negotiation with Japan. ![]() Ratification of international agreements by EU Member States became a particularly hot topic in 2016, with the progress, or lack thereof, on negotiations of several international trade agreements, and the process for approving them coming under discussion.īecause the principles followed for ratification are very different according to the Member State concerned, the involvement of different levels of national and regional government can vary, as was the case with the Canada-EU Trade Agreement. The European Union conducts and concludes trade agreements with partners on every continent, and is modernising some of the older agreements, dating back as far as the 1970s, to reflect the EU’s new trade competences acquired with the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty.Īrticle 12 of the Vienna Convention lays out the circumstances under which ‘consent of a State to be bound by a treaty is expressed by the signature of its representative’. Allows bi-directional charging from the alternator or an auxiliary source such as shore power. The use of relays, solenoids, or solid-state switches eliminates the diode drop.Smaller and lighter than diode-based isolators. If the main battery voltage is lower than the voltage of the auxiliary battery, the separator will engage both batteries to help an engine start.Ī summary of the performance benefits of battery separators include: Upon engagement of the engine starter, the battery separator compares the voltage in the main and auxiliary batteries. In addition to protecting the charging system and the main battery from damage, a battery separator can assist in engine starting. While battery isolators are typically diode-based devices and allow current to flow in only one direction, battery separators support bidirectional current flow. This process of managing the charges on both batteries continues as long as the engine is running.īattery separators are available in a variety of termination options. If left connected, a damaged auxiliary battery can potentially drain the main battery. ![]() Typically, at a voltage of about 12.8Vdc, the auxiliary battery will be disconnected from the charger to protect the charging system. When the charging system voltage on the main battery reaches about 13.2Vdc, indicating a charged main battery, the battery separator will engage and enable the auxiliary battery to be charged. If the overall charge needs are greater than the alternator can support, the battery separator disconnects the auxiliary battery and sends all charge current to the main battery. When the engine is first started, the battery separator disconnects the auxiliary battery from the system and senses the charge needs of both batteries. For example, when the engine is started, the battery separator monitors the voltages of the main battery, the auxiliary battery, and the charging system voltages. While battery isolators are relatively simple devices, battery separators (sometimes called “smart battery isolators”) are more complex and perform several functions. Smart battery isolators, also called battery separators, using relays are more flexible than diode-based general purpose isolators. If a common diode-based isolator is used, lower system efficiencies result from the diode drop added to the circuit between the charging power source and the batteries. Isolating the batteries prevents a weak or dead battery (usually the auxiliary battery) from draining charge from a strong battery (often the primary battery). This supports simultaneously charging more than one battery from a single alternator or other power sources without connecting the batteries in parallel. There are system performance tradeoffs between battery separators and battery isolators and between various implementations of battery isolators.Ī battery isolator is used to separate the DC bus into multiple (isolated) branches and only allow current flow in one direction in each branch. Adding a second battery system for auxiliary loads can resolve that concern, but it must be properly wired into the vehicle’s electrical system. ![]() If a single battery system is used, the battery can become drained when the engine is off, and auxiliary loads are drawing power, resulting in an inability to start the engine. Disconnecting the two allows the separator to prioritize the charging of the batteries. On the other hand, battery separators are designed to protect the charging system from excessive electrical loads by separating (disconnecting) the main and auxiliary batteries from one another. Battery isolators are designed to prevent auxiliary batteries from draining the main battery. Battery cell isolators and battery cell separators are used to control current flow in multi-battery systems in a range of vehicles, including recreational vehicles, boats, utility vehicles, airplanes, large trucks, and off-road vehicles that accommodate auxiliary loads and high current loads such as a recovery winch. ![]() In relatively dry climates, a wood shingle or shake roof can last 60 years in damp conditions, you might only get 20 to 30 years from the roof. Knowing which material is best for your project, weather conditions and the style of your home is an important decision. Longevity depends on circumstances and maintenance. 5 Types Of Metal Roofing Materials (Pros & Cons) Article Summary: There are a lot of materials available on the market to roof your property. ![]() Shakes are produced by splitting wood, and they are thicker wedges with a rougher texture. And rather than simply going with the option you previously had, you might want to consider a longer-lasting or more modern roofing material. Shingles are typically thin, wedge-shaped slabs of wood that are produced by precise sawing. There are many types of roofing materials to choose from, including asphalt composite shingles, metal shingles, wood shakes, and clay tile. Still, they are among the most attractive roofing materials, which makes them a popular choice for luxury homes.Īlthough both are made from natural wood, usually cedar (typically found on Cape Cod-style homes) or redwood, there is a difference between wood shakes and shingles. They are not as long-lived as some other roofing materials, and they are a poor choice in areas that get lots of moisture or where wildfires are a danger. Wood roofs are very attractive, but they are also quite expensive and have limitations. The type of roof you choose isnt purely based on aesthetics each design is more suited to certain climates and weather conditions, with other factors to. ![]()
![]() ![]() In one of the studies, for instance, moms of 27 defiant 3- to 7-year-olds were randomly split into three groups and were a) told to give their kids short commands followed by silence, even if their kids didn’t comply b) told to give their kids short commands followed by timeouts if their kids didn’t comply or c) not given any disciplinary instructions. They found that timeouts and other negative responses were associated with increased compliance in every study they reviewed, far more so than the “positive” disciplinary tactics. This included forms of “positive” discipline like praise, encouragement, and hugs, as well as “negative” feedback like timeouts, ignoring, reprimands, and stern looks. ![]() Overall, how well do timeouts work compared to other disciplinary tactics? In a systematic review of 41 studies published in 2012, psychologist Daniela Owen at the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy and her colleagues at Stony Brook University evaluated how well various types of nonphysical interventions improved kids’ subsequent behavior. “The popular press has been quick and persistent in making up rules for the use of time-out that are not evidence based and, in fact, seem to have no factual basis whatsoever,” Christophersen explained in an article he wrote for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Developmental and Behavioral News in 2007. And don’t require her to apologize or fess up at the end of the timeout, either. If she laughs and pretends to be having a blast, don’t yell at her to be quiet. If your daughter cries during a timeout, don’t attend to her she is understandably upset, but she will learn over time to self-soothe. Instead, they keep fretting over their kids, which can turn the timeout from a deterrent into a positive reinforcement. That brings us to another mistake parents commonly make with timeouts: They don’t really give timeouts, Christophersen says. (Christophersen advises parents to keep explanations even shorter: “no hitting,” say, or “time out hitting.” Then, shut up.) “It’s not supposed to be evaluative it’s supposed to be factual.” Plus, when parents go into explanatory or pejorative diatribes, they are doing precisely the opposite of withholding attention. “We recommend stating the behavior clearly in terms of what the violation was: ‘Now you’re going to have to timeout because you engaged in this behavior,’ rather than saying, ‘You’re being bad’ or ‘That’s awful’,” Lutzker says. So what’s the proper way to initiate a timeout if your child has thrown her high chair across the room again? Calmly and simply. And in its guidance statement on effective discipline, the American Academy of Pediatrics notes that “ignoring, removing, or withholding parent attention to decrease the frequency or intensity of undesirable behaviors” is “especially important in promoting positive child behavior.” For instance, evidence-based parenting programs, including the internationally implemented Triple-P Positive Parenting Program, recommend timeouts, and such programs have found that the interventions successfully reduce misbehaviors as well as the risk that children will suffer from psychological issues like anxiety and depression. Indeed, plenty of research suggests that timeouts are safe and useful when parents employ them properly and in the right situations. ![]() But that’s not because they are inherently dangerous it’s because so many parents and teachers misunderstand how they should be done. And timeouts can be ineffective, psychologically damaging, and make behavioral problems worse. Some psychologists do believe that if you practice good “ positive discipline” techniques, by stating facts rather than demands, using distraction to steer kids away from danger, and working out solutions as a family, you shouldn’t need timeouts, or at least not very often. Have my attempts to raise a good little boy scarred him for life? Or are these anti-punishment policies way overprotective and perhaps even harmful? ![]() I'd also suggest not connecting anything not required to make it boot, including all drives because a bad drive can cause it to hang while booting. You will get the error at POST prompting you to go in to the BIOS (Press F1) but that's normal to see whenever you do this and it defaults. You can do this three or four times in a row, back to back and then see if it will boot at all. If there is an issue with your RAM settings you can force a default boot by pressing and holding the power button until it cuts off on it's own. Leave it like that for about 10 minutes, then pop the battery back in first and then restore power to try it again. The red LED can be caused by defective RAM or RAM settings not right.īe sure to check your CMOS battery voltage with a voltmeter, if it's below 2.9v's replace it, if it's above 2.9v's it's probrably OK but if right at the limit (2.91V's) replace it anyway because you will before long.īe sure to attempt to clear the BIOS, by disconnecting/killing power from the wall and then remove the battery, then press the power button a few times.
